Embodiments
(2020 - ongoing)
The work consists of a series of self-portraits that I make by wearing the clothes of other people encountered during my travels or artist residencies.
It is an act of impersonation, a search for a similarity and a common ground.
For me, it makes sense to do this in the case of relationships that are still in their early stages, where the idea I form of others is full of gaps onto which I inevitably project my aspirations and my shadows.
The performance facilitates a connection between myself and the other person, whom I leave free to choose whether or not to witness the taking of the photograph.
In some cases, I write a sentence or a short text about something that struck me about our interaction.
To date, I’ve taken about 70 photographs resulting from as many encounters.
